Genre Research : Documentary

 The first genre i researched I studies was documentary style. A documentary is one of the many forms of genre in films. The documentary style genre in film is a category of movies that are characterized by their non-fictional content and objective approach to storytelling. Documentary films are often educational or informative in nature and seek to present a factual account of real people, events, or issues. Documentary films can cover a wide range of subjects, from historical events and cultural phenomena to scientific discoveries and social issues. They may be produced by independent filmmakers, television networks, or educational institutions, and they can be shown in theaters, on television, or online. Documentary films often use a variety of techniques to tell their stories, including interviews with experts and eyewitnesses, archival footage, photographs, and narration. They may also use animation, graphics, and other visual elements to illustrate their points and help to engage audiences. Documentary films may be informative, inspiring, or thought-provoking, and they can provide valuable insights into the world and its many complexities. Some classic examples of documentary films include The Thin Blue Line, An Inconvenient Truth, and March of the Penguins. While documentary films are typically associated with non-fiction, some filmmakers have used the documentary style to tell fictional stories or to present their own subjective perspectives on real events. These types of films are known as "docufiction" or "mockumentary" films. That documentary style films are frequently found entertaining by the older audience. With that being the case most directors target the older audience to promote their film. To be considered a documentary it has to be a non fiction style film with a purpose to inform the audience. This all varies on what the director's vision is. A directors vision is what is considered most. When producing a film specific instructions are followed . It ensures that the product of the film is close to what the director had in mind with very few alterations if nessecary. Documentary style has been very impactful on the film industry.

Genre Research : Drama

  The drama genre in film is a category of movies that are characterized by their serious tone and exploration of deeper themes, emotions, and character development. Drama films often seek to engage audiences emotionally and intellectually, and they may deal with complex or controversial subjects. The drama genre can encompass a wide range of styles and subjects, from historical dramas and biopics to social issues and family dramas. Many drama films are based on true stories or literary works, and they often feature strong performances by actors and actresses. Some common elements of drama films include character-driven storylines, realistic dialogue and settings, and an emphasis on emotional depth and psychological complexity. Drama films may also use cinematography, music, and other techniques to create a mood or atmosphere that enhances the film's themes and characters. Drama films often aim to make audiences think and feel, and they may explore themes such as love, loss, redemption, and personal growth. Some classic examples of drama films include Casablanca, Schindler's List, and The Godfather. Despite their serious tone, drama films can be highly entertaining and rewarding for audiences. They can inspire, challenge, and move audiences in powerful ways, and they often leave a lasting impression long after the credits have rolled.

 Urban fiction, also known as street lit or hip hop fiction, is a genre of film that focuses on the experiences, culture, and struggles of urban, African American communities. Urban fiction films often depict realistic and sometimes violent or controversial subjects, and they may explore themes such as poverty, crime, and social injustice. Urban fiction films may be set in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago, and they may feature characters who are struggling to survive or succeed in their environments. These films often depict the challenges and triumphs of working-class characters and may focus on themes such as family, loyalty, and personal growth. Urban fiction films may draw inspiration from real-life events or cultural trends, and they may feature elements of hip hop music, fashion, and dance. They may also incorporate elements of other genres, such as comedy, drama, or action, and they may feature well-known actors or rappers in lead roles. Some classic examples of urban fiction films include Menace II Society, Boyz n the Hood, and Friday. These films are often praised for their authentic depiction of urban life and their powerful performances by actors and actresses. While urban fiction films have been popular for many years, they have also faced criticism for their depiction of violence and negative stereotypes of African American communities. Despite this, they remain a popular and influential genre of film that has helped to shape popular culture and raise awareness of important social issues.The urban fiction genre has made an impact on the film industry in several ways. One reason is that it provides a platform for underrepresented voices and stories to be told. Many urban fiction novels are written by authors from marginalized communities who may not have had the opportunity to have their stories told in mainstream media. By adapting these stories into films, the film industry is able to showcase diverse perspectives and bring attention to important social issues. Another reason that the urban fiction genre has made an impact on the film industry is that it has a large and dedicated fan base. Many urban fiction novels have become bestsellers and have gained a loyal following, which has led to their adaptation into film. Overall, the urban fiction genre has made a significant impact on the film industry by bringing diverse stories and perspectives to the forefront and by appealing to a large and dedicated audience.

A World of Genres

  In film, a genre is a category of movies that have a similar style, tone, or subject matter. Some common film genres include action, comedy, drama, horror, science fiction, and romance. Genres can be used to classify films according to their themes, techniques, and settings, and they can help audiences to better understand and anticipate the type of movie they are about to watch. Genres can overlap, and many films belong to multiple genres. For example, a film might be classified as both a comedy and a romance, or as an action movie with science fiction elements. 

There are many different types of genres in film, and they can be classified in a number of different ways. Some common genres include:

1. Action: These films often feature fast-paced storylines, exciting special effects, and intense fight or chase scenes. Examples include the James Bond and Mission: Impossible franchises.
2. Comedy: These films are designed to make audiences laugh and are often lighthearted and humorous in tone. Examples include The Hangover and Bridesmaids.
3. Drama: These films are typically more serious and explore deeper themes, emotions, and character development. Examples include The Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump.
4. Horror: These films are designed to scare and thrill audiences, and often feature supernatural or disturbing elements. Examples include The Conjuring and The Exorcist.

There are many other genres as well, including animation, crime, fantasy, musical, mystery, and war, among others.

For my film the genres that would fit best would be drama,  urban fiction, and documentary style film.

                                   

Pitch Perfect

  Pitch 1: A teen girl struggles with atelophobia; the fear of imperfection. How badly has societal standard affects her view of herself? 

Pitch 2: student struggling with academic and parental pressure

Pitch 3: the only child has a perfect life and a perfect family until she uncovers a dark family secret...

I chose Pitch 1 as i feel I can properly depict each characters struggle with atelophobia. The concept of two perspectives allows opportunity for several filming techniques like split screening. This concept would allow my editing skills to advance.

                                    

Group Blog

 Hi there! I have learned immensely what it means to collaborate, communicate and congregate over the years. AICE AS Level Media Studies was a moment to remember. I learned from my peers, colleagues, and teachers and I am grateful for the knowledge I gained in the process. Last year I worked on my final task with a group of three other girls named Mia Obritis, Willow Rivera, and Lucia Rodriguez. Sadly that will not be the case this year. They were great partners and it was an exceptional learning period for us all. However, none of these girls mentioned this year are taking Media Studies A Level. As I am extending my study I will take this as an opportunity to see where my skills alone take me. This will be a moment of defining the skills that I have and how they can get stronger. Despite this being the case I have been offered to work in several groups. Nevertheless, in the end, I will be working by myself. This means will be filming, editing, producing, and even acting by myself. I get to put my creative vision into a film. I believe this process will be interesting as I have never worked on a film alone but I'm ready to fight my way past the obstacles, It will be a process to create ideas on my own but as time goes on I will be more adapted. Despite never working alone on a project I am independent, determined, and persistent. This will be great year for me! I am excited to start my A level journey.

Hello there I am Kai Lobban! Although I'm fifteen years old and a junior in high school I have many goals and aspirations set for myself. Regardless of my young age, I have always worked too hard to achieve success. With that drive, AICE Media Studies has caught my attention. As a child, I have always found the process of production and filming fascinating. I spent time looking at the behind-the-scenes of many films and movies to see how the production undergoes. My favorite behind-the-scenes clips to watch were always Marvel Movies. Most of my free time went into being a YouTube. Where I spent hours learning how to film and edit like some of my favorite influencers and nitpicking at any flaw in my editing. Although I wasn't a big sensational hit I enjoyed watching the final product of my videos. I felt somewhat satisfied to see my handwork pay off. With this newly obtained knowledge recognizing the use of different editing in upcoming movies and tv shows will come with ease. During this course, I have already learned the use of sound in movies and how it could make a drastic change to the emotion of the plot. As my mastery develops, I plan on using the information I learn and applying them to assignments a group projects that I will do in class. Throughout the year it is a goal of mine to further my knowledge and know more than I do now. Carrying the knowledge I gain from this class to adulthood and beyond. Overall, Media Studies is a class that piques my interest. As the school year continues I can't wait to compare my growth from years prior. Younger me would be pleased to see me continuing the hobbies I once had and developing to be triumphant. I have faith in my skills and I can't wait to make my teachers, peers, and as well as myself proud! I am excited to experience the A Level dream!
