Storyboard Blog

Scene 1- Features all actors getting in the car, and will show the actors facial expressions specifically, as it is imperative they look excited.

Scene 2- A close-up shot of everyone in the car. It is meant to convey the sense of travel, so the car will be moving.

Scene 3- The actors will walk towards the fair. This shot will show the fair, and it will let the audience know the setting for the rest of the music video.

Scene 4- Actors receive their wristbands. This will be an extreme close-up, showing the details of the hands and wristbands.

Scene 5- The next shot is important since it will show the environment that the video will take place in, along with specific rides.

Scene 6- Tracking shot of actors walking to a game. They will be smiling, as the video is meant to symbolize good times.

Scene 7- This scene will be an establishing shot for the game. This scene will show what the actors are about to participate in.

Scene 8- This scene is an action shot, with the object used to play the game in the first shot, then the action taking place in the second shot.

Scene 9- Waiting in line for a ride, with a canted angle. The canted angle follows similar conventions from other pop music videos.

Scene 10- Will show the actors on a ride. This scene is important because the low angle will appear to enhance the height of the actors and the ride. This shot will also show the emotions of the actors, and it will emphasize the tone of the music video.

Scene 11- The next shot is a three-shot focusing on the actors eating. The expected effect of this shot is to symbolize friendship between the three.

Scene 12- The final shot will be of the Ferris wheel, a common connotation with fairs, and this shot will not show the actors, emphasizing how the experience was greater than the people.

Planning Blog

My group chose to use the song "Good Days" by Sza for our music video

Schedule:

Group research was created on November 14, 2021, based on our songs genre.

Location, schedule, props, costumes, and backup plan was established on November 16, 2021

Storyboard will be created by two group members on November 19, 2021

Filming will begin on Tuesday, November 23rd for the music video

Another day set for filming will be Friday, November 26th

*Another day could be added based on the number of quality shots we are able to get during those days.

The editing process will begin throughout the week of filming and onwards. [November 23- December 10]

Location:

Since we are not permitted to film on campus, our group has decided to create the music video at the Broward County Fair. We will make use of the different hours in the day on both filming days for different parts of the music video.

Backup location:

Although we have set for the fair to be the background for our video, we chose to have a backup location at the beach and the surrounding areas.

Costumes:

The actors in our video will be wearing very casual clothing that fits the atmosphere of the fair. Since this is for a school project, we will be dressed appropriately.

Props:

The different props that are going to be included in the music video are carnival game toys like stuffed animals and the food the actors will have throughout the day such as cotton candy.

Research Blog

My group is doing a music video for the song "Good Days" by SZA.

  • In typical music videos, the lyrics are portrayed through actors, objects, or things in the different scenes. Music videos are generally meant to bring the lyrics to life in a visual manner.

  • SZA's music videos use close-ups as the main camera angle to show her lip-syncing or extreme close-ups where lyrics are linked to visuals.

  • Every music video, in general, employs a range of camera Shots, Angles, and Movements to create various moods, reflect various genres, and accentuate specific parts within the video. Each director and/or cinematographer develops his or her own distinctive style, which is reflected in the final result.

  • A variety of shots are used in music videos for a variety of reasons, including relating to the audience through expressing thoughts and feelings, as well as showing the spectator what is going on. The camera pans to follow the artist or to depict the artist's performance. A filmmaker can opt to propel the action along by delivering the tale in a sequence of cuts, moving from one shot to the next, or by moving the camera along with the action.

  • Lighting, props, wardrobe, hair and makeup, location, and color are all part of the Mis en scene for music videos. These aspects are usually determined by the music video's genre and aesthetic. These elements are also significant in terms of contributing to the genre chosen. They are utilized in music videos to highlight the importance of the characters. They're also utilized to portray characters in a variety of ways.

1. A traditional music video convention is to mainly focus primarily on the artist or band performing solo or in front of an audience. There is no plot, only a collection of camera angles and band member movements.

2. In music videos, they highlight and emphasize the lyrics through visuals.

3. SZA uses pathos in her music videos by connecting with her audience through the emotions conveyed in her lyrics.

Group Blog

It's the start of a new chapter. Our recent assignment is to create a music video for our favorite song. For the last assignment, I worked with Willow Rivera, Lucia Rodriguez, Jacob Pineiro. Our collaboration skills were superb and when working my group had great time management skills. This caused me to work with them again. My members in my group are very sophisticated and hard working. Since our last film together worked out so smoothly I decided to keep their same role as last time. To refresh for the commercial assignment I was the director. My job is to film the scenes and make decisions on what would better the film. As a group, we decided it would be best for me to film since I went above and beyond to take scenes with a good camera angle and movements. Willow and Lucia, also known as Lucy are both the actors for our blog. They will be portraying the emotion in the music video. In many scenes, they will appear together. Due to their exceptional friendship filming scenes together are never awkward. Jacob will be appearing in some scenes when needed to provide background extras. However, his role is mainly an editor. He will provide extra soundtracks, cuts, and other additions to our film made after the filming period. Although I am the designated filler and Jacob is the designated editor everyone else in the group is subject to give their opinions to ensure a great quality music video. I cannot wait to start filming our music video. The final product is something yet to come.

Intro Blog

Hello there I am Kai Lobban! Although I'm fourteen years old and a sophomore in high school I have many goals and aspirations set for myself. Regardless of my young age, I have always worked too hard to achieve success. With that drive, AICE Media Studies has caught my attention. As a child, I have always found the process of production and filming fascinating. I spent time looking at the behind-the-scenes of many films and movies to see how the production undergoes. My favorite behind-the-scenes clips to watch were always Marvel Movies. Most of my free time went into being a YouTube. Where I spent hours learning how to film and edit like some of my favorite influencers and nitpicking at any flaw in my editing. Although I wasn't a big sensational hit I enjoyed watching the final product of my videos. I felt somewhat satisfied to see my handwork pay off. While taking this class I'm ready to fully understand and comprehend different terms and vocabulary used while filming. With this newly obtained knowledge recognizing the use of different editing in upcoming movies and tv shows will come with ease. During this course, I have already learned the use of sound in movies and how it could make a drastic change to the emotion of the plot. As my mastery develops, I plan on using the information I learn and applying them to assignments a group projects that I will do in class. Throughout the year it is a goal of mine to further my knowledge and know more than I do now. Carrying the knowledge I gain from this class to adulthood and beyond. Overall, Media Studies is a class that piques my interest. As the school year continues I can't wait to compare my growth from years prior. Younger me would be pleased to see me continuing the hobbies I once had and developing to be triumphant. I have faith in my skills and I can't wait to make my teachers, peers, and as well as myself proud!
