Critical Reflection

 The film Atelophobia was inspired by its definition.; The fear of being imperfect. This definition was entirely different that an obsessive compulsive disorder but sounded oddly similar. Atelophobia is an effect societal standards of beauty and intelligence have placed on humanity. This intense pressure to be the perfect partner, boss, and parent have all led to immense amounts of stress. In my film "Atelophobia "  it was emphasized how beauty standards affect our youth more than the older generation may see. This harmful ideology of beauty has caused children to feel ugly in their own skin. Atelophobia shows how Lola a girl struggling with an eating disorder, couldn't see her own beauty. how every time she looked in the mirror she found a nonexistent flaw in herself to get rid of. As the film progresses Lola was able to admire her beauty and become happy within her own body. Her smiles were now more vibrant and she tuned out the voices that once made her feel less than.

For Example, it is great to shine a light on an often misunderstood issue. Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that can be difficult for people to understand. Plaster It On The Walls

 I'm making a poster today to promote my movie. I start by choosing a strong image that encapsulates the spirit of the movie. I think about what hues, fonts, and graphic components will best represent the movie. In search of ideas, I look at various movie posters. I select a slogan that both captures people's attention and summarizes the film's content. I mention the director, cast, and title of the movie. I develop a crystal-clear call to action that lets consumers know how and where to see the movie. To get the ideal balance, I experiment with numerous layouts and designs. I take into account the target market and what will appeal to them. I show my team mates the poster and ask for their opinions. I incorporate their feedback into my changes, always keeping the overall goal of the movie in mind. I pause to rest my eyes and collect my thoughts. I refine the poster till it is flawless. I save the poster in various formats so that it may be printed and used online. To raise awareness of the movie, I post the poster on social media and other websites. I get in touch with neighborhood businesses and groups to ask if they'll put up the poster. I distribute flyers and the poster to residents of the neighborhood. With the help of the poster, I hope to launch a marketing initiative that will be as widely distributed as possible. I am aware that a brilliant poster can have a significant impact on the number of people who see the movie. I'm interested to see how the poster will affect the movie's commercial viability. I'm pleased with the effort I put into designing a gorgeous poster. I am appreciative of the chance to demonstrate my artistic abilities in this manner. Over this process, I've learnt a lot about the value of visual marketing and communication. #NotSoPerfect

 In order to publicize and expand the audience for my student-produced short film, I created an Instagram page. Choosing a handle that would be simple to remember and relate to the concept of the movie was the first stage. In addition, I picked a profile photo that would stand out and capture the mood of the movie. I took my time writing a biography that would provide a quick overview of the movie and its producers to potential followers. I interacted with other film-related accounts' postings and followed them in order to get followers. I shared behind-the-scenes images and videos with fans to give them a peek at how the show was made. To pique fans' interest and build anticipation, I also posted teasers for the movie. To make the posts more visible, I made sure to incorporate pertinent hashtags. 

I worked on creating content for the page with the cast and crew and urged them to share it with their followers. I used Instagram's story function to share still images and movie snippets. I interacted with followers by quickly answering their comments and mails. I monitored the page's performance using Instagram's analytics tool and changed my content approach as necessary. I made sure to post frequently to keep readers interested in the movie. I organized posts into categories and made a graphic chronology of the movie's production using Instagram's highlight function.

I organized a Q&A session on the page so that fans may ask inquiries regarding the movie and its producers. I launched a social media competition to entice fans to produce fan art and post it on the website. I worked together with other aspiring filmmakers to promote one another's work. Nothing But Greatness

 Being praised so highly for my short video is an incredible experience. That demonstrates that people value the time and work I invested in making it. Good evaluations can greatly inspire me to continue and produce more movies in the future. I'm appreciative of the compliments and acknowledgement. It makes me feel accomplished and validates my efforts. Reading encouraging comments can increase my self-esteem and give me the confidence to embark on greater and more difficult jobs. It also gives me the confidence that I am moving in the correct direction as a filmmaker. Splice and Dice

The second day of editing for my documentary on eating disorders happened today. I started working immediately. When I organized the files and watched the footage from the first day of filming, I made notes. I began putting the pieces together after importing the video footage into the editing program. I worked on the opening scene, trying out various angles and shots. To achieve a unified appearance, I took your time tweaking the contrast and color grading. To heighten the emotional impact of each scenario, you incorporated sound effects and music. I saw to it that the movie's pacing was steady and interesting. You went over the script to check the timing of the dialogue. I worked on the scene changes, making sure they were seamless. I tried with several visual enhancements to spice up the movie. I paused to rest my eyes and collect my thoughts. I worked on some of the trickier situations, experimenting with different methods until you found the one that worked. To collect their opinions and feedback, I held a discussion. Based on their recommendations, I made a few adjustments while continually keeping the general goal of the film in mind. I spent some time watching the entire film to ensure that everything was in order. Any other alterations I desired to make were noted. Making sure it had an influence on the audience for a long time, I worked on the concluding sequence. I adjusted the music and sound effects to make sure they were flawless. I labored through the night, eager to do as much as I could. When the film came together, I got a sense of accomplishment. I was aware that my effort and commitment had paid off. I  was eager to observe the audience's response and get their opinions. Even though I was aware that there was still work to be done, I was optimistic that the movie would be a hit. 

Editing Madness

 I was eager to watch the footage I had collected come together as I started editing the student film I had made. All of the footage needed to be arranged and sorted by scene and take in the first stage. I took my time going over the tape to pick the greatest shots and perspectives. I wanted to make sure that the finished film had a strong flow and a compelling plot. I noted which scenes needed to be reshot or changed as I went over the film. In order to give the footage a specific feel and ambience, I also took my time color grading it. As essential to me was the sound design, so I took my time choosing the appropriate music and sound effects to go with each scene. Making a seamless soundtrack required me to match the sounds from several takes, which was a challenge. I experimented with many scene changes to see which one suited the movie the best. To keep the audience interested, I had to change the pace of several parts. Maintaining my original vision for the movie while remaining open to criticism and recommendations from others was crucial to me. I started to experience a sense of joy and success as the project got closer to being finished. In case I needed to go back and make adjustments, I made careful to save many versions of the project at various stages. I screened the movie for friends and family once I had finally finished the edit to obtain their feedback. Their supportive comments and helpful feedback were helpful in completing the last film modifications. I exported the movie after making the last adjustments and sent it to festivals for consideration. It was a difficult but gratifying experience, and I learned a lot about the filmmaking process while editing this student short.

The Sequel

The second day of filming for my student-produced documentary about eating disorders was today. I got myself ready for a long day on the set by rising early. I made sure everything was in working order as I packed my camera, tripod, and other filming supplies. When I got to the set, I enthusiastically greeted the cast. The cast were eager to start shooting. Everyone collaborated to keep everything on schedule while following a thorough shot list and plan. The main character's problems were vividly brought to life by the actress who played the role. The crew put in a lot of effort to perfect the sound and lighting. For each shot, I recorded multiple takes to ensure I had enough video to work with during editing. Making sure everyone had time to rest and eat, I took a break for lunch. I kept filming after lunch, taking shots of the background actors and the scene. Together, the crew captured each scene's emotion and intensity. Throughout the day, I had to adjust to unforeseen changes and difficulties, but I handled them without difficulty. I could see the film starting to come together as the day went on. The cast and crew's talent and commitment to quality made an impression on me. I spent some time watching the video and taking notes for the editing stage. To record the process, I also shot some behind-the-scenes pictures and videos. The day passed swiftly, and before I knew it, filming had to be finished. I expressed gratitude to everyone for their effort and commitment. I assembled your tools and double-checked that everything was present. As I thought back on the day, I were pleased with the results I had achieved. I drove home while feeling both worn out and content. During the subsequent filming day, I produced a mental list of areas you wished to strengthen. I considered the movie's message and how crucial it was to spread knowledge about eating disorders. Upon completion, I intended to show the movie to your school and neighborhood. You were appreciative for having the chance to produce something worthwhile as you headed to bed. The next day's filming and the advancements you would make were things you eagerly anticipated.

Lights , Camera, Action!

 The first day of filming for my movie was a great success. Early in the morning, eager and prepared to start filming, we arrived at the place. Clear, blue skies, and just the proper amount of sunlight made for the ideal weather. Our team had everything they needed ready to go, and they were well-prepared. The actors were punctual and excited about their parts, which contributed to the productive environment on set. We were able to record some incredible footage all day long. The actors flawlessly delivered their lines, and the moments were expertly photographed. We were all proud of the spectacular visual effect that the ideal camera angles and lighting produced.

Everyone was upbeat and eager to resume filming even throughout breaks. One of the highlights of the day was when we were filming a difficult scene that required the actors to perform a lot of physical movement. They flawlessly executed the scene, assuring everyone on the set of their talent and commitment. We were able to record the action from a variety of perspectives, providing us with a ton of video to use in post-production. The cooperation and communication between the crew and the players were just another fantastic element of the day. Everyone was able to collaborate well, bringing their individual expertise to the process. Also, by adhering to our timeline, we were able to obtain all the essential video in just one day. We were all worn out yet elated when the day came to an end. We had done so much in a single day, and it was obvious that our diligence and planning had paid off. Knowing that we still had a lot of work to do in the days of filming, we took a moment to enjoy our accomplishments. The first day of filming for my movie went amazingly well overall. We were successful in getting some incredible footage, collaborating well as a team, and finishing on time. We were excited to see what the remainder of the filming would bring because it was a terrific beginning to what we knew was going to be an amazing movie.

Gathering All Props

 

I started by developing ideas. It helped me to develop a vision for the film and brainstorm different props that will help bring that vision to life. It's time to start sourcing the props. This can involve everything from scouring thrift stores and antique shops to contacting prop rental companies and even creating custom props from scratch. I get to use my creativity and resourcefulness to find the perfect props for each scene. As the props started rolling in, I got  to see my vision come to life in front of my eyes. It's an incredible feeling to see your ideas materialize into physical objects that will be used on screen.

For the film I gathered the clothing I thought that would fit Lola best. Which outfit would represent her confidence wise, appearance wise , and personality wise. The audience can better comprehend and react to a character by using clothing as visual indications about their rank, career, and past. To indicate the time period in which the movie is set and to provide a sense of historical or cultural context, clothing can be employed. Clothes can portray a character as threatening, glamorous, or informal, for example, and set the mood or tone of a situation. Increasing visual appeal: In situations featuring detailed or elegant costumes, clothing can enhance visual interest and appeal. The theme we went for is 2000’s coquette style. Our next priority is gathering props of the film. Today I went out in the city and bought props for the film. I bought stuffed animals, posters, and makeup to add to the film. Props have great importance to a film and make a big impact.

Props, which is short for "properties," are things or objects that performers utilize in a movie to further the plot. They include a wide range of items, including clothing, furniture, and automobiles, as well as firearms, papers, and private property. Props can be utilized to tell the audience crucial details about a character or the plot as well as to help define the historical period, setting, and mood of a scene. Props occasionally even have a major impact on the storyline of a movie. In general, props play a crucial role in the visual language of cinema, drawing viewers into the narrative and resulting in a more compelling and enjoyable viewing experience.

All Plans Need A Back-Up Plan

I understand the significance of getting the right permits to utilize copyright information in my film since I am a responsible and moral student filmmaker. I shall take additional steps to follow up with the copyright holder through additional messages or phone calls to confirm receipt of my request if I don't hear back from my initial request. If I still don't hear back, I'll assume that I don't have permission to use the protected property in my movie and look into other options for music or content that isn't subject to copyright limitations.As a conscientious and moral learner If I am unable to locate appropriate substitute content, I will evaluate options and come up with a plan of action. I'll also do some study to make sure I abide by all applicable laws and rules regarding unauthorized use of copyrighted material. 

I shall keep a record of all attempts to contact the copyright holder and any responses I get in order to uphold high ethical standards throughout the filmmaking process. I will endeavor to credit all content sources utilized in my film, even if they are not copyrighted, and I will accept responsibility for any repercussions that may result from utilizing copyrighted material without authorization.

Personally, for my film, I contacted Frank Ocean to receive approval to use his music in the film. American singer, songwriter, and rapper Frank Ocean originally rose to prominence in the music business with the release of his mixtape "nostalgia, ULTRA" in 2011. He is renowned for his deep voice, reflective lyrics, and ability to combine several musical genres like R&B, pop, and hip-hop. Frank Ocean, a 1987 Long Beach, California native, began his musical career as a songwriter for performers like Beyoncé and Justin Bieber. His debut studio album, "Channel Orange," was released in 2012 to positive reviews and won him multiple accolades, including the Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Frank Ocean has had an impact on my generation due to his open activism and his support for the LGBTQIA+ community. He is an extremely popular artist and his music is very sensual. Frank Ocean's music would correctly represent the emotion our main character is feeling within. Frank has a way of displaying different emotions through his music so beautifully that it resonates within the soul.

A student-led film can be significantly impacted by the setting of the movie. The setting the movie is shot in can have an impact on the visual value and overall mood and tone of the movie. A movie set in a busy city will, for instance, have a different vibe and ambiance than one set in a peaceful rural setting. We found the visually stunning "Phat Boy" restaurant, a well-known Japanese chain famed for its opulent interior design and delectable sushi and ramen. The franchise's many locations make it a practical and accessible choice for shooting scenes at a café or restaurant. The restaurant has emerged as a strong candidate for a pivotal setting in my movie due to its aesthetic appeal and fit for the film's objectives.

In order to choose the ideal locations for each scene, it is crucial for a responsible filmmaker to investigate all of the potential filming locations. This involves taking into account elements including the location's aesthetics and atmosphere, accessibility, and availability. Even if other places may be considered for production, the main settings for the movie may still be used. In fact, it is frequently advantageous to have a few other possibilities for each scene in case of unforeseen events or modifications to the original plan.  A student-led film can benefit from a greater range of visual and creative options by keeping an open mind and exploring different filming locations, which ultimately produces a more engaging and well-rounded end product.

Overall, the scouting day was successful in identifying accessible and suitable filming locations. It was an enjoyable experience. Experience like that really put into light about how thorough the film making process truly is,

Calling All Actors

The production of this movie was significantly hampered by the absence of the original principal actress. A careful casting procedure was used to find a suitable replacement who had the knowledge and expertise needed to play the role well in order to overcome this issue. After the availability of the ideal actress was finally resolved, Addison Walker was painstakingly prepped for the part. She was found to be the best option to continue as the lead actress for the duration of the movie after rigorous consideration. Despite the initial obstacle, I was able to overcome it and carry on with the production process because of my inventiveness and steadfast dedication to finding a solution. As a consequence, a new primary actress for the movie was successfully found. It's important to remember that Addison doesn't have the only role in the movie. Although the existence of a friend group is vital, their impact on the movie is not seen as crucial. But it's crucial to have performers who can portray the characters truthfully. I thought it was appropriate to choose actors who were reasonably near to Addison in order to guarantee a comfortable and productive shooting environment. With this strategy, productivity and familiarity are balanced during the production process.

The actors chosen will be my mutual friends Victoria, Azmain, Andres , and Joseph. These people are comfortable with being filmed. They have also consented to participating in the film. Getting consent guarantees that participants are aware of the details of their participation in the movie, such as their parts and the material they will be portraying. Participants should be given the choice to opt out if they are uncomfortable with any component of the procedure and should be made aware of any potential hazards or discomfort that may occur during shooting. By making sure that every participant gives their clear agreement to be videotaped, any ethical or legal issues that might surface throughout the production process can be avoided. As a result, it's crucial for student filmmakers to give consent top priority throughout the whole production process. This entails outlining the filming procedure in detail, collecting everyone's written agreement, and ensuring that participants are aware of the extent of their involvement in the project.

Despite the odds being against me the cast has been finalized. We are now ready to proceed with filming.

A Change In Plans

There has been a change in plans. So much has happened. Unfortunately, a project's major elements may not develop exactly as planned. Nonetheless, it is possible to turn a challenging circumstance into a positive one. Even the best-laid plans can potentially fail due to the unpredictable twists and turns that the complexities of life frequently bring about. Poor planning can have serious consequences in the world of media film, including as production delays, budget overruns, and even project failure. Hence, avoiding mistakes requires extensive research, foreseeing probable problems, and putting a backup plan into action. Even while careful preparation can greatly increase project success, other forces that are beyond our control can obstruct its execution.So, it's critical to maintain adaptability and flexibility in order to go beyond challenges and look for other options. Significantly, unforeseen events occasionally create advantageous possibilities that would not have appeared if the project had gone according to plan. 

To make sure that my creative vision was faithfully portrayed in the movie, our initial idea was to put a friend, Addison Walker, in the starring position. Unfortunately, I lack the acting skills needed to do the part right. But, via the acting classes she attends in her spare time, Addison had shown tremendous acting potential, making her the perfect candidate to carry out the project.Nevertheless, due to limitations resulting from Addison's personal life, she was unable to participate on the day of shooting, prompting a review of her position in the project, especially given the time restrictions and scheduling issues. 

The creative choices of the filmmaker can influence the tone, style, and message of the finished work, and they can have a significant impact on how the movie turns out. The director's relationships with the cast and crew play a significant role in how the movie turns out. To make sure that everyone is working towards the same creative vision, they must give everyone clear direction and advice. To realize their vision, they must also be able to work well with others, such as producers, writers, and cinematographers.

In the end, the director's choices can affect how well the movie does financially, how well it does with critics, and how well it does with moviegoers. A talented filmmaker can produce an engaging, thought-provoking picture that appeals to audiences and wins critical praise, as opposed to a film that is badly produced and fails to live up to expectations. To assure the success of my picture, the choice of the main female lead actor is a crucial decision that demands swift and careful attention. I need to make a decision right away. The outcome of my film depends on it!

2/3/23 - I will have a completed storyboard.

2/4/23-2/6/23 - I will gather all necessary props and put together costumes.

2/6/23-2/8/23 - I will start and finish filming the scenes that take place in the characters house.

2/9/23-2/12/23 - I will film the lunch scenes for the short film.

    Within these times for filming any back-ups or retakes should be completed for all scenes.

2/13/23-2/15/23 - I will edit the short film.

2/16/23 - I  will finalize the short film which will include both the filming and editing being finished.

Location

I will film at one of my mom's rental property's for the film. The Scenes at home will be at several different homes based on my mothers availability. The scenes at a cafe will be filmed at homey style cafe called " The Little Coffee Shop". This coffee shop specializes in coffee and authentic fresh pastries (10732 Wiles Rd, Coral Springs, FL 33076). The scene taken a lunch restaurant will be taken at a Chipotle. Which is food chain restaurant of americanized mexican food. (4220 N State Rd 7, Coral Springs, FL 33073)

Participants

I will not be acing in this film. My job we be to direct, film , and edit.  I will be using my friends as actors. Considering the film surrounds one character name Lola , my main actor will be friend Addison Walker. My friend Dartamian will play Alex. The actors for Sophi, Clara, and Lola's mom have yet to be decided due to possible actors having an altercation in schedule.

Health and Safety

For the filming of this short film there will be no chance of harm for anybody involved. However, everyone in my group will have a cell phone on their person that can be used to call for help if the need occurred.

Props

My group will utilize props such as cell phones, makeup, clothing, and food. If my group finds that more props are needed than my group plans on going to a store to purchase the prop or finding something else that can be used. However, since my group's short film deals with realism, every prop will likely be available at one of my group members' homes.

Costumes

The costumes used in my group's short film will be everyday clothing as the characters in the short film are supposed to look like real people. However, based on how filming goes one character may wear a hat.

Back-Up Plans

My Locations are set in stone considering its more documentary style focusing on real topics. If by chance my mo will not let me use our rental properties I will film at my own house. For the main actor Lola I have several other friends that are interested in playing her role.

Screenplay

 INT. SUBURBAN HOME - DAY

This is the home of Lola. Lola and Clara have been best friends since childhood. Lola gets ready to hangout with friends by picking out her outfits. Outfits that were not selected were thrown on the floor and beauty props were scattered across the room.

LOLA

(VOICE OVER)

Atelophobia; The fear of imperfection. As a young child, women were taught how to act, speak, and look. We were exposed to models that we looked nothing like and were told their body was our goal. We were never taught that it's okay to be imperfect, it's okay to have flaws.  We were never told that the standard of beauty is not definite and we are the ones who define it, and we never saw our own beauty.

EXT. LUNCH CAFE - DAY

Lola and Clara’s friend group meets for brunch. They have casual conversation while making jokes. Although they are all friends, not everyone in the group has the best personality.

LOLA

(spoken dialogue)

Cute top Sophi! Where did you get it?

SOPHI

Thanks! Ummm….. I am not really sure. It was either Pacsun or Urban. You can borrow it sometime. I'm not sure it would fit you though.

CLARA

Woah Sophi!. Don't be so rude I would kill to have Lola’s body.

The rest of the group conversation continues but Lola becomes very distant.  Lola seems inattentive as if her mind is elsewhere. When the food arrives everyone but Lola is eating their food.

ALEX

Hey Lola you barely touched your food are you gonna finish that?

LOLA

I’m stuffed honestly. You can have the rest if you want

ALEX

Don't have to tell me twice. Pass that here!

Int Lola’s Home - Night

The scene cuts to Lola at home in her kitchen. She looks distressed rummaging frantically through her kitchen. Lola grabs food out of the fridge and pantry and quickly runs up the stairs to her room. When she arrives to her room she is impulsively eating lots of food

After she is done Lola goes to the bathroom. Lola is in the bathroom carefully examining herself in the bathroom. She touches her stomach, arms, and legs with a face full of disgust. She starts profusely crying thinking of the comment her “friend” Sophi said earlier. She starts forcing herself to throw up what little she ate throughout the day.

Int Home- Morning

Months Later Lola’s Mom found out about her once secret. Crying profusely her mother is in shock. She can’t fathom how she didn’t know sooner. They argue continuously until they both agree for recovery. Lola is hesitant but she doesn’t want to deal with this mental torment.

LOLA’S MOM 

(SPOKEN DIALOGUE)

 I can't believe you have been doing this

Baby you’re perfect. Your body is perfect. Why are you starving yourself

Lola stares blankly at her Mom. She can't come up with the right words to say . She starts choking up crying. Throughout all the guilt coursing through her heart she feels relieved. Like so much weight has been lifted off her chest and she can finally breathe.

 

 LOLA

What? Do you think I like living like this? That I chose to feel like this? Look like this? I just want to feel normal and loved-

LOLA’S MOM

I love you. You are worth more than this. You are perfect just the way you are

LOLA

I don;t need help! I just want to feel normal. I don't see myself when I look in the mirror anymore. I stare at a whole different person and I ask myself where I went wrong. 

LOLA”S MOM 

 Your Father and I are going to get you help. You’ll meet a therapist who can actually help

Lola’s mom quickly grabs her and hugs her. They finish the conversation both in tears as they both only want her to recover.

Int Cafe - Mid Day

Months later Lola has a new relationship with food. She is healthy and happy and sees the world in new colors. She can freely eat out with friends without worrying about her consequences when she gets home.

(VOICE OVER)

We are all born beautiful. The greatest tragedy is being convinced we are not. We look back at victims of this and we ask ourselves were they too soft or was the world too harsh. But Lola learned that she must step into the path of growth. That in the end you are fighting for you. And that you need to love yourself first before someone else can love you.Lily collins says it best  “Asking for help is never a sign of weakness. It’s one of the bravest things you can do”
